2007/10/28 Tough DaysBeing a parent is soooo rewarding but man there are times you think "can I get an Easy Button here???" If you don't watch TV you won't get it. It seems that both my kids are on this path of disobedience that I can't control. Today I seriously felt like signing up for the Doctor Phil show to qualify for some "freebies". How nice would it be to have someone tell me what I'm doing wrong so that I don't end everyday thinking this is going towards more like a Jerry Springer Episode instead of a Dr. Phil one (JERRY!!! . . . JERRY!!! . . . JERRY!!!). It really does seem that the only thing they respond to is bribes these days. I spent all day trying to convince Madelyn that candy is bad for her and that she shouldn't eat the WHOLE bag she got from church. This isn't even touching on the point that Logan has his own candy and having a completely different battle with him. Days like this just make me respect my mother even more because she really didn't have a "helper" like my wife does. That's assuming you could call me such. Somehow amidst all the battles today there rises bedtime and a calm peaceful quiet over the house. I would go to bed but then I really couldn't enjoy the silence that's the Zen of it all. Somehow going to sleep gets me closer to starting it all over again. I'll take my late nights for now. On a lighter note over the last few months we have been wondering where all of Logan's clothes have been disappearing to. I of course blamed it on Jeanette's ability to stash things in remote places not visible with the human eye. Here is a graphical representation on our findings: One for the road: 2007/10/22 The happiest place on earthHooray! Last Monday we finally made it to Disneyland. We had been planning to go for Madelyn's birthday a month ago, but we had to reschedule it 3 or 4 times because of family, work, and sickness. Maddy has been waiting so patiently to go and Monday was finally the day. We all ended up having a great time and as soon as we were on the tram to the parking lot Maddy was asking when we could come back. The best moment of the day was to see little Maddy so excited to see all the princesses. She was a little shy at first but was so excited to meet them. When we left she was calling out to the princesses by name,"Good bye snow white, good bye Jasmine." As if they were now best buds. Like I would say bye to Jlo or something. It was hilarious. Hopefully I will be able to figure out how to put a little video on here soon. Maddy loved meeting the "real princesses". Dean thought it was pretty funny how she could spot a fake. He assumed Maddy would be impressed with all the women dressed up like princesses. He asked her how she liked meeting a princess when she informed him that the 2 ladies that were dressed up and handing out crowns were not real princesses. She could spot all the fakes in the park. After waiting in line for an hour (the only real line of the day thankfully) Maddy was even lucky enough to meet 5 real princesses when the attraction is set up for you to just meet 3. She was ecstatic. Dean said it would have been worth the trip just to see the look on her face. I am glad she had such a good time. I was thinking about Disneyland being the happiest place on earth and I had to laugh thinking of all the people we saw there. I think we saw every different emotion from all different families. Families that were happy and excited, ones that were exhausted and kids that were asleep, parents that were frustrated and mad at uncooperative children, and everyone in between. It was pretty entertaining.I know we were exhausted by the time we got home and I spent the next day or 2 just relaxing. So happy really really belated birthday to Madelyn. Here are a few pictures from Monday. You can also make the pictures bigger if you click on them. 2007/10/14 SickeeesWell I guess it's been over 2 weeks since I've blogged. Thanks for picking up my slack Dean. I cannot think back what I was doing 2 weeks ago but the past week has been pretty crazy. Logan had the flu for almost a week, I was sick for a few days and the past couple days Dean has been sick. I think the only thing worse than trying to take care of a sick child is being sick yourself and trying to take care of a sick child. Poor little guy. He has had a few colds and a couple ear infections but this was the first time he's been really sick. It was so heartbreaking to see him so sick and exhausted. He was a little champ though. Of the dozen plus times he got sick to his stomach he never once cried. His usually vibrant personality was so calm and somber you knew he just wasn't himself. It is so good to have him feeling better. He is up and running around and back to loving his cars ever minute of the day. As for myself I am still a little exhausted. I have done more laundry, bleaching, scrubbing, and disinfecting this week than I hope to do for the rest of the month. I think I did 3 loads of laundry everyday. One day after poor little guy had projectile vomited on myself as well as the table, kitchen sink, bathroom sink and floor I was left trying to remember all the places he had gotten sick and where to begin the clean up. At least Maddy helped by having a sense of humor about it. After having dealt with the vomit for 4 days we moved on to the diarrhea phase. I was changing his diaper when Maddy walks over and says,"Yuck Logan, what did you eat?"" Logan apparently appreciated these diapers as well. He told me "I don't wanna smell it mommy." Uh yeah, he wasn't the only one. Anyhow this weekend was much better. We were able to see my brother and his wife and baby. On Friday we went shopping with Stefanie and baby Megan. It is pretty cute how much Maddy adores Little Megan. I only wish they lived closer so we could see them more often. Then last night we all got together to celebrate my dad's birthday. As always we had a great time hanging out with the fam. Now I better get in bed and pray that everyone is healthy to go to Disneyland tomorrow. 2007/10/7 Simple ThingsIt's the simple things in life that make it all worth it. I've noticed that if I don't write things down about the kids that I completely forget them. Just the little things they say that are either funny or profound.
The last few days Logan has had the flu. He's had it bad and when you have a kid getting sick EVERYWHERE it can take its toll. Poor little guy has been such a good sport though. So we are stocked up with those food items that he can eat or at least are "easier" to clean up for Mom and Dad. Today we busted out the Saltine Crackers and were feasting on those. Later on in the day Madelyn was getting hungry and asked me for some of those "Teenage Crackers". Took me a while to figure out what she was really asking for. We all had a good laugh over it.
Last thing, for some reason when ever you say the word "Great Sphinx" (it's from Little Einsteins) Madelyn just starts laughing uncontrolably. Crazy some of the things kids find funny.
Better get in bed. I'm sure one of us is next in line for the flu. *crosses fingers 2007/10/5 Belated Isreal Trip ReportSo as some of you know I went to Israel in July for business. I took some pictures and had a wonderful time but just never blogged it. Now that Jeanette has officially shown me up on the blogging scene I figured I better at least show my face some of the time. My trip began by saying goodbye to my beautiful little family. I would next spend the next 20 hours in route to Israel. It wouldn't have been that bad had the plane not been built for midgets. My 6'5" frame really doesn't work well in those things. So I made it back on to the ground safe and sound and was greeted by a good friend and co-worker Ronen. First stop was my Hotel which you can see from the pictures had a beautiful view. The next few days I would get to tour much of the area while fitting in some work and Beach VBall. Jet Lag didn't hit me that bad at this point. So during this week I hit some great spots of importance: Historical spot near Tel Aviv where Napoleon resided for a time, world class Humus joint that didn't look world class but had very good Humus, Ceaseria a beautiful ancient port town with many remains still in tact, Jeruselem where I got a special tour from a co-worker who grew up there, and last but not least a dip in the Dead Sea. So I got to see all those things in which the normal tourist doesn't get to. I reckon I gained a large portion of weight due to all of the wonderful food that was placed before at all times. My trip back was even worse than going but I made it back to my beautiful family safe and sound and missed them very much. Here are the pics:
